About Honker Nation

Honker Nation began as “Honker Headquarters” in 1993, starting with just three leases and a handful of 10 hunters dedicated to goose hunting. Our gear was a mix of old, battered decoys we called the “junkyard spread,” and we transported them in the back of a pickup truck, covered with a cargo net. We used flute calls—if we used them at all—shot 10-gauge shotguns, had a three-bird limit, and hunted from hand-dug pits without covers. Despite the simple setup, we found success in the field because it worked.

But as any seasoned hunter knows, the birds got smarter, and so did we. Over the years, Honker Nation has evolved, adapting to the changing demands of the hunt. Today, we have more than 25 groups of six hunters, access to over 40 prime hunting locations across Northern Colorado, and we’ve expanded beyond geese to include doves, ducks, turkeys, and the occasional deer.

Our gear has come a long way, too. We now transport high-end, lifelike decoys in enclosed trailers, use $200 short-reed calls, and shoot 3 ½-inch 12-gauge shotguns. We hunt from six-man pits with custom-built covers, and with a five-bird limit, our success remains unwavering. It takes all of this to make it work.

What will the next 30 years bring? Only time will tell, but we’re ready for whatever comes next.
